Every 2 years The Adelaide Parklands Preservation Society has an Art Prize to raise the vulnerability of Adelaide’s unique Parklands.
This year it runs from April 2nd to May 31st 2020 and will be held in the Festival Theatre Foyer and QBE Galleries.
Cheryl was honoured to be chosen as finalist out of over 360 entrants
Cheryl’s finalist piece is ‘Natural Harmony’ a freehand machine embroidered artwork
it is 92 x 84cm

It is truly an honour for Cheryl’s embroidery to be a finalist as:-‘The Adelaide Park Lands Art Prize is a non-acquisitive art prize open to all artists of any age, working in any media or style – with the aim of making a statement or capturing the essence of the Park Lands.’
Three independent judges are
Tracey Lock – Curator Australian Paintings & Sculpture, Art Gallery of South Australia
Emma Fey – CEO Guildhouse
Christopher Orchard – Internationally renowned artist, SALA Festival Feature Artist 2017, Lecturer
The winners will be announced on the first of April then I will post my finished work, ‘Natural Harmony’

Natural Harmony in Progress on sewing machine

As with all my work
* I do not use computers
* I do not use projectors
* I do not use photography or printers
* I do not draw on the canvas with anything but the thread
* I do not use paint on the canvas
* I do not use appliqué
* I do not use hoops
* I do not use zigzag
* I do not use dissolvable fabrics
It is just me moving the canvas under a simple sewing machine as one would sketch by moving pencil over paper
