By the time I went to Nailsworth Primary School where I was already drawing. After my graduation from art school the building was converted to the Prospect Library and Gallery, I was so excited and attached to it that building that it became the subject of my second wall artwork, I called it ‘Memories and Changes’ This artwork took 500 hours of machine embroidery indeed, the hand took all day.

It was shown at the opening but, the Prospect Council would not return it as it was theirs! They put it in their council chambers. I demanded its return so I could enter it in the Victor Harbour art show. It was selected but when I went to the opening it was not present, on inquiring, I was told “embroidery is not art dear” I went home and embroidered ‘Fired Up’ my portrait of the woman who had rejected it.

Fired Up The Curator
It was then exhibited in Stangate House 3 Edgeware Rd Aldgate (my first solo) with the help of Craft South, it was then shown in the foyer of Craft South (my second solo)

Jerry Rodgers (1992)
It was sold. I lost track of it.
In 2025 I received a phone call from Sydney auction house to say Memories and Changes was going to the UK and they needed it valued for insurance purposes.
I never thought an artwork would have such a chequered life.
Cheers Cheryl
