In 2011 Cheryl held a Solo Exhibition at the Adelaide Zoo
Prior to the opening Cheryl spent days in the Zoo and at Monarto sketching the animals, she then went home and produced acrylic paintings, embroideries and art garments for the exhibition. The exhibition had extensive publicity on all types of media. This is a transcript of an interview prior to its opening.

My exhibition ”Are We Different” is to be presented at The Adelaide Zoo’s Santos Conservation Centre in Nov. 24th to Jan. 21st.
The exhibition will showcase a new body of work. This will include paintings, paintings with applied 3-D embroidered elements, embroidery on canvas, embroidered tailored one–off wearables and in addition a very newly developing and experimental stitching on blank washed paper. The paper allows me to stitch edge to edge, creating lots of holes and tears initially until with stitching, the paper becomes a tactile fabric with a rich surface of thread. Somewhat like the rich textures, colours, detail and pattern of the animal world.
“Are We Different” will open on November 24 2011 and continue through the Christmas, New Year season until January 21 2012. As a way to engage with my audience and demonstrate my unique approach to animals, I plan to conduct workshops to adults and children as a fundraiser for the Zoo’s Conservation cause.
The Santos Conservation Gallery will be filled with colourful dreams, converting the walls into a magical place. I have a deep passion for art and nature. Within a dream-like presence I have tried to capture the animals and birds personality. I have spent many days at Adelaide, Monarto and Taronga Zoos sketching the animals and visitors highlighting their differences and similarities and the consequent kaleidoscope of colour. My Art reveals a shared purpose, and a richness of human interaction and imitation. Themes of appreciation, conservation, and the human connection will be showcased in a series of narrative art works.

The opening was large gathering and over 80% of the artworks found a new home.

The Exhibition ‘Are We Different’ was then extended for another month.
Enlarging on the theme of are we different Cheryl created large number of chimeras of people and animals one ‘East and West’ depicting the Director Chris West and a Panda she gave to him as a memento when he went to his new job in Scotland.
