SALA 2026 Finalist The Advertiser Contemporary Art Award

Cheryl has been a finalist in 3 out of the last 4 SALA exhibitions no mean feat when there are over 10,000 artists involved each year.  (over 11,000 this year)

 Artist Statement

Thought provoking embroidered narrative created and inspired by the devastation to our environment and sea life as the result of the algae bloom. Three-D static fish casting dark shadows are swept up by greenish swell into an unreal spiral vortex, there is a face inside looking out. It is a surreal interpretation of the environmental crisis, loss of sea life that impacts on human’s mental & physical well-being. My free embroidery technique of over 100 hours of stitching is a hands-on process, interpreting my drawings as I move unmarked canvas under a sewing machine needle with my hands.

Her winning work  Blooming Waves’ is. Exhibited at Keith Murdock House Foyer, The Advertiser,  31 Waymouth St Adelaide August 1 – 31

Please vote for Cheryl here.

The rest of her SALA exhibition is on show at her studio where she will be in attendance
